Day 6: Inchnadamph – Oykel Bridge

20.1 miles – cloudy with drizzle much of the time

Head of the great Glenn Oykel; you can just make out the young Oykel river snaking its way through.

Most of the text to follow.

But I need to explain that I arrived at oykel Bridge completely exhausted and a day behind schedule. The last four miles were near-impossible, and I had to stop to catch my breath every few yards. I was booked into Ullapool Youth hostel that night and the night after; I knew I needed that rest day, so decided to take a taxi, with the aim of returning to Oykel Bridge after my rest day to continue. Does this violate Rule 3b ( see Rules)? is it a “medical, or other un-anticipatable emergency, which would render getting to the nearest hospital or point of help impossible on foot or just too urgent.” I let my readers judge.

I think it was probably the right call.
